Oh, hello spring

Crawling out from the mounds of snow and below average temperatures that this winter gifted us with we happily took a half day break last week to visit Evergreen CO. An hour south of Boulder sits this quaint mountain town that gave us a bit of relief from our currently grueling schedule. Note the bandaged fingers. Sigh.

The warm temperatures are welcome although we have enjoyed the change of season from our consistent 70° Oakland weather. Looking back at the projects we completed this winter the work is all jumbled up with the experience of living here.

The labor, slow process and long awaited accomplishments were spattered with rewards which typically came in snowy jaunts and time with old friends. The beauty of our Steamboat trip on a -20° snowshoeing trek in December.

The dogs enjoyed their own adjustments to winter including new snow booties. If you do nothing else today watch this video at least 3 times.

Now for the real stuff of winter, the work and the successes that help keep us going. Once the electrical, the lights, the drywall repair and the painting were done we finally moved on to installing a wood ceiling in the basement. Josh set furring strips on the joists in advance to give us a level surface to attach to.

Beginning of the install. Don't tell anyone but this is click together laminate flooring not hardwood. A strict budget kept us from using the real thing but lucky for us it looks like wood. We used adhesive, a nail gun and some moxie to get it up there.

This is where we started getting excited about the install. Major improvement.

We also applied 'wood' to the back wall of the main space where we have installed an AV set up for flat screen and surround sound. It's truly turning into an elegant man cave.

Close to completion. I will return with finished photos when I post the final basement pics.

We are vigorously working away all waking hours of the day during our last few weeks of renovation here. There are lots of big projects coming and lots of dramatic transformations to share.
